Strong Enough

Introduction

The song Strong Enough by Matthew West is a fantastic reminder that we need to rely fully on God for everything in our lives. Unlike some songs we study each verse of this one reiterates the same theme over and over again ultimately culminating in a fantastic revelation. More Than I Can Handle

On our own we cannot possibly do all the things that we are called to do. Many times we will be called to accomplish things that we can only do if we rely on God to give us what we need.

The Point of Giving Up

Human nature is to try to do things on our own because we are taught that asking for help is a sign of weakness. But in our weakness we are made strong (2 Corinthians 12:9). At some point though we reach a point where we realize that we can’t do this on our own and give up trying. It is at this point that we turn to God and what seemed like a colossal failure can still be turned into a success with God getting all the glory. Giving up control is the hardest thing to do especially if you are anything like me and feel the need to be in control of everything. But when we control everything our goal shifts and we are no longer seeking to bring glory to God but to ourselves. Only when we reach rock bottom do we realize that everything we do should be done for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

You Are God

Only when we realize that you are God and are our strength do we start to see the success of what we have been called to do. Your mercy is all that we need.

I Can Do All Things Through Christ

Philippians 4:13 tells us “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Let Christ be your strength there is no glory in trying to do things all on your own. Only when we fix our eyes on Jesus do we realize how little we are capable of and how much he can do through us. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:1-2, ESV).”
